  2. head of garlic - 1
  3. salt - to taste
  4. pepper - to taste
  5. country oil - as needed (or any preferred cooking oil)
  6. butter - to taste
  7. spring onions - as needed (chopped)
  8. grated Italian cheese - as needed
  9. additional Italian cheese - as needed (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Garlic and Rye Bread: Take a piece of rye bread and a head of garlic. Slice the top off the garlic head to expose the cloves. Drizzle with country oil and season with salt and pepper. Wrap the garlic in foil and place it on or next to the rye bread on a baking tray.
  2. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven until the garlic is soft and caramelized, and the rye bread is toasted.
  3. Prepare the Garlic Spread: Once baked, carefully squeeze the softened garlic out of its skin. It should come out easily and have a honeyed consistency.
  4. Assemble the Toast: Spread butter over the warm rye bread. Add the roasted garlic, chopped spring onions, a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and a generous amount of grated Italian cheese.
  5. Final Bake with Cheese: Top with additional Italian cheese and return to the oven for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
